Photo of the day: Jan 22nd
. . . or flash back thursdays. Anyway, this is me, age 1ish, c1969
I heart this photo for some reason. Mainly the quality is aweful, I think it was shot on a 16mm and all the prints from this period have that odd texture to them too. It's also slightly out of focus to boot! Anyway, this photo always reminds me of an old Monty Python joke - Why is making love in a canoe a lot like American beer? because it's like fucking close to water. Obviously my parents thought the same thing back in 1970 by feeding me an Olympia beer.

Photo of the Day: Jan 16th
This is Marley. My eldest sister adopted him about a month ago, his name is Marley. Hi Marley. I got meet him for the first time over the Xmass break from work. He's quite a dog. And by quite a dog I mean he's nothing like my sister's last dog, who was more lap dog and almost a cat. Anyway, this dog loves nothing more then running around and being part of the pack. Again, nothing like my sister's last dog. But I digress, my sister asked me if I could to take a few photos of him, so when she was out, he mainly plops himself on the couch and sleeps till it's fun again and she returns. So the assignment was rather easy. Thus this picture
I'm not really sure what Marley thinks of me, he would keep an eye on me when I was around as he wasn't used to me. I generally found though if I gave some attention he's wind up and get pretty excited. What was nice, was that he wasn't constantly wanting to sit in my lap. That was rather awesome actually. So for that, Marley is awesome dog. My sister kept telling us that he's Basset hound golden retriever mix. Which he probobly is based on his short legs, long bulky body and color of his fur. The thing is, his head is massive and pretty distinctly shaped like of a pit bull head. So to say the least he's a happa dog. Or mutt in 'Merikan. Ok, not sure what else to tell ya about Marley at this point, as that's all I know.

And this is my fat cat Kage. This time shot on film with my M7 and really old Sonnar designed (50's era) 50mm 1.4 Nikkor-sc in Nikon S mount and adopter to M mount. I really do heart the old Sonnars.

Photo of the Day: Jan 8th, 2015
Last weekend I blitzed down to LA, for no other reason then "I wanted to get out of the house." Really, that was my reason. Since I used to live in that town I generally try to see friends I haven't seen in a while and visit some place I never got around to visiting. This time around it was trio of historical downtown spots, all across the street from each other. These being Grand Central Market, Bradbury building and Angel's flight. I've visited Angel's flight before, but it was fully non op at the time. This time around it wasn't running either, but at least the two cars were on the track!. Anyway I spent the most amount of time at Grand Central Market getting dinner and shooting mainly folks who work at the various eateries within it. I'm not actually done processing all the shots from that day, but I knew when I took the below photo that this was going to be a keeper. So I'll share it now. It would appear that the Grand Central Market has a liquire store within it, and this local had just purchased his Friday night delight and wanted a cig to start off the the night.

This (and a few others linked to it) are from Xmass in Portland. This particular one is of my Uncle and Aunt on Xmass eve at Molly's house (another aunt). My two sisters, nephew (his girlfriend) and horde of other relatives were in attendance. We exchanged gifts and other accoutrements for the holiday.

Grand Central Market - M240 + 50mm f1.4 Lux e46
From a trip to Los Angeles during the Xmass vacation from work. Despite having grown up about 5 miles from the downtown Grand Central Market and living in LA till I was nearly 40 I had never visited this place. I've gotta say it was fun to roam around and take pictures in this place. The lighting was less then stellar, but was interesting none the less. Just across the street one could find the non-working Angel's flight and Bradbury building
